tHE CARS RPM GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN. tHE CAR is not idling up and down, just the needle. I replaced the icm, but the problem still continues. When the needle goes to zero, the car shuts off. Could it be the coil. I replaced the distributor about a year and a half ago. Help!

Hi estan49, Thank you for the donation. Symptoms described seems to indicate a faulty ignition coil. Test the ignition coil primary and secondary resistance to cionfirm. Ignition Coil Resistance 1. Turn ignition off. Remove distributor cap. Remove 2 Phillips screws retaining primary ignition leads to ignition coil. Remove primary leads from ignition coil. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between primary terminals "A" and "B" on ignition coil. See Fig. 2 . Resistance should be as specified. 2. Check secondary resistance between terminal "A" and secondary output terminal (coil tower) at room temperature. If readings are not as specified, replace ignition coil.
