1995 Honda Civic Engine Stutter and Tranny Problems?

Hello,

A few months ago I noticed my engine stuttering. So I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap. I still feel as though it's not running as it used to and still feel as though there is a stutter occasionally in the engine. What should I be checking next? Fuel injectors?

Also, I'm noticing that sliding into reverse is getting more stiff than it used to be. All the other gears seem fine and from others have told me and my parents personal experience with transmissions, if it's going to go, it will be in reverse where it goes first. I haven't checked my tranny fluid level yet, but will. Do I have to take it to a shop to flush and replace or can I do it myself?

I think you may have a problem with your clutch not the tranny. have it checked out .

Hi alisondrain,

If shifting into reverse from park position is stiff, it should be the shift cable. If reverse is slow to work or does not work at times, then the 4th clutch is goin off. Flushing would not help.

Stuttering is another matter which should be from the engine.

Under what condition does it happen? Accceleratiing, cruising, idling?

The shifting problem is only from park to reverse. How can I fix the cable issue? Sounds expensive to me :o(

The stutter happens when idling. The first time I noticed the misfire was a bright sunny day, so I changed the spark plugs. The next time it happened it was wet hence me changing the wires and dis cap. Now it seems to do it when my engine is cool in the mornings when idling before I leave my driveway, sometimes its dewey out.

Any input would be fantastic!

Hi alisondrain,

If you had done anything to the cable, most probably the end at the trans is out of alignment. Any pulling of the cable when its holding bracket is removed will cause the cable end lever to twist and cause tight shifting.

If the end of cable sleeve is worn or broken, you have to replace the cable.

When you say stutter, is it the engine rpm moving up and down or you can feel the engine misfiring?

When cold, the EACV and Fast Idle Valve should have the rpm going above 1500 then slowly drops as the engine heats up, so it is not easy to stutter, unless onoe of the injectors might not be working well.
