How do you actually get the outer CV joint apart to get new boot on please ?

Have remove shaft from wheel hub.

Thank you for your reply to my question as above.

Still have not got the car through the MOT - it failed for the following reasons:

Brakes spongy so will be replacing master cylinder - do you know of a supplier who will just get the seals for me rather than having to buy the whole cylinder please ?

Exhaust lambda test ( is this the CO2 level ) ? If so, would you know how to adjust the mixture level please ? ( Honda Civic with carburettor )

Remove it from the vehicle (seperate balljoint, remove strut fork, and pry the axle out of the transmission)

Now, you will have to cut the clamps off and gently hammer the CV joint off the shaft with a brass punch. After it's off, clean all the old dirt and grease, and re-grease the joint sufficiently. Now this is the tricky part, you will have to collapse the snap ring on the shaft as you lightly hammer the CV joint on the axle shaft.
