My civic has been running hot lately; it hasen't gotten to the point of actually overheating yet but it is operating way above normal. It gets hot where the needle on the heat gauge is almost touching the red danger zone and while this is happening the heat does not work, then the temp drops and the heat starts works. my opinion is that it is the thermostat getting stuck closed (therefore the car gets hot and no coolant goes through the heater core), but then again I am not a mechanic.
