VALVE ADJUSTING

i had the head off of my 94 civic 1.5 milled because the head gasket blew and i want to adjust the valves before i put it back together. however i'm unsure of the gage dimension (feeler gage)and when to adj. what valve. the machinist told me intake open exhaust closed but to me that sounds shadetree and i don't do things like that. please help

You set the cylinder that you want to adjust to TDC then you adjust all the valves in that particular cylinder.

So set it to tdc for cyl 1, adjust the valves, tdc for cylinder 2, adjust those valves and so on.

There is a quick trick I can teach you, but its hard to explain through the computer and you'd really have to have a good feel for it to do it properly.

Make sure the motor is cold when you adjust the valves.

i have the head off the car and its been milled and cleaned. it's easy access. to work on. thanx 4 your help. would you happen to know what gage is used to adjust these with.

Set the pulley as above, and adjust valve for 1st cylinder. Turn camshaft 90 degrees and adjust cylindrer # 3 Turn another 90 degrees and adjust cylinder # 4 Final 90 degrees adjust cylinder # 2.

ghamm, any regular feeler gauge is fine on the SOHC motors. You can buy a small feeler gauge set for this, just make sure it has a 6-8 thou' gauge.
