1994 Honda Civic changing gears

Hi JOHNNIERP,

Check the trans throttle pressure cable adjustment.

Other possibility is a failing 4th cluth. Does the reverse seems slip at times?

After I put in drive and step on the gas,it won't come out of the first gear,unil it goes up to 4000- 5000rpm.,and 25mph,the next gears after it reaches 25mph,are changing fine.you said it might me the throttle cable adjustment,Is it losing hydraulic pressure somewhere?Thank you.

Hi JOHNNIERP, No, I don't think it is losing pressure. Rather the shifting time might be too late due to throttle cable adjustment being too short resulting in a higher pressure required to unpshift to next gears. If all the gears tends to upshift with a jerk, ( intensity depending on accelerator pressure ) then the cable requires some adjustment. THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE NOTE: Before adjusting throttle control cable, ensure throttle cable connecting accelerator pedal to throttle body linkage has .39-.47" (10- 12 mm) deflection with throttle closed. If deflection is not as specified, loosen lock nuts and adjust throttle cable. 1. With engine idling at normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on), loosen throttle control cable adjustment lock nuts at transaxle control lever bracket.

2. Adjust lock nuts to synchronize movement of transaxle throttle control lever and throttle body throttle lever/linkage. Tighten adjustment lock nuts.
