So I replaced a failing distributor (the car was running rough and frequently stalling) and, for a moment everything was running fine. A few miles later I noticed exhaust smoke which increases when I step on the accelerator. Checked the plugs and all 4 are dark and wet (apparently fouled). What has happened?

Hi eyezalive,

Check the ignition coil. It could be weak resulting in weak sparks and incomplete combustion.

Was the ignition timing checked after installing the distributor?
