1984 Honda Civic idle speed too high (2000 rpm)

Is your choke initial opening and fast idle cam adjusted properly? If not adjust it 1st before you do the A/F mix and curb idle adjustment

choke setting is fine. I don't know how to adjust the fast idle cam. Even after driving the car for some time, the idle won't drop

Try adjusting the fast idle cam -by setting it on the 2nd step and lowering the idle as far as you can

Hi, I checked the idle speed cam and that wasn't the problem, but I did manage to find out what was causing the high rpm. When you press the gas pedal the throttle linkage moves and supplies gas, but when you step of the pedal the throttle linkage wasn't going back to its original position. I used a long nose plyers and forced the throttle linkage back and the idle dropprd down to 800 rpm. I think the spring has lost it's tension or their might be some corosion in the assembly.

Clean around the throttle plate-make sure the throttle plate is fully close if not it will give the high idle to include a weak spring and kinked acc. cable/linkages

I ordered a new carb kit and should be receiving it today. Maybe i'll have time this weekend to strip the carb down and clean and install new kit.

I will let you know how it goes.

Hi, i said i will let you know when i rebuilt the carb with the new kit. Idle is now down to about 800 and seems to run well for a few days. today when i tried to start the car. It will start but theres no ignition display. runs okay but no tach, oil, temp and no red lights when you normally turn on the ignition. any idea why.

Test the ignition switch. when you turn the key to run all those idiot lites/gauges should come-have you check all the fuses/

I did not check any fuses or wiring yet. I didn't want to mess with anything I didn't have to. I will check this weekend. Its weird how the car starts though plus theres so many different lights and guages. How is it possible that everything stopped working at the same time. I am almost sure theres more than one fuse that control everything.

Okay lets start with testing all the fusible links power has to come from here to get in the vehicle/ignition switch. Possible cause here for the lights/gauges could be a voltage limiter problem that's if it has one.
