Honda 93- brake soft and sometimes it sinks

i have a 93 honda accord, has been driving perfectly until recently i noticed that the brakes dont stop the car as fast...it feels pretty soft. Sometimes ive felt the brake sink in all the way and got me really worried. I can stop the car pretty easily at red lights etc, but if i drive fast, i dont think id be able to break quickly and stop. I am going to take it to the garage but i wanted to know how much a service repair would cost.

some problems i was told were:

1) low brake fluid
2) bleed out the brakelines
3) master cylinder problems.

could anyone give me a rough price guess to all these. I'm on a tight budget and I would like to know what to expect. I'm taking it to a Meinike/Geminiauto center type place.


Also since my car is a 93, are there any other maintenance things I should look into?

Only you would know what has or has not been done to the car. ie timing belt, water pump, oil change, plugs, wires, etc.

The problem in your case for the brakes could be low fluid but then why is it low? Air, I don't think so. Look for leaks around the reservoir where you add brake fluid. Look inside the car where the pedal pushes through the firewall and around the master cylinder itself. If you see no leaks follow the line down to the wheels and check all the way for leaks. I suspect, however, that you have a bad master cylinder. When you open the top of the reservoir and someone pushes on the brakes do air bubbles surface? You are looking at a $200 job for the master. More or less.
