engine HELP

I have 1988 honda accord DX 119k on it i have somewhat a loud noise coming from the engine i was told it sounds like a diesel engine running...... another says maybe a lifter gone bad any help will be great and maybe how much this would $$$COST$$$ to fix labor fees and part fees and Thank You ahead of time.

I think a loud noise is descriptive in some instances, but in this case, we could use more information. Your friend actually listened but we only have the words you give us to listen to.

What i hear is a knocking noise near the the right side of the engine ( the pulleys side ) with my hand pushed up against the engine i feel the knocking about 20 times per ten seconds when its at idle. as i start to take off i get less noise the only thing i can think of is a lifter at this time. i have priced a camshaft/ lifter kit 380.99 at kragen i have not went to a mechanic at this time. just want to make sure this is the problem if you could just tell me so far what i have told you what you think it might be and labor fees how much would this cost me.
