2008 Honda Accord Problem with paint bleed

I ran my 08 Accord up against a curb at a drivethrough. A hairline crack appeared on the trim under the door on the driver's side. I washed and waxed the car, and when I tried to touch it up with touch-up paint (Honda paint from dealer), it began to bleed blue. Is this serious? How do I protect the car from rust and what is the blue bleedthrough coming from?

Hi wandathehonda,

There is nothing that can cause the paint to bleed blue as mentioned.

The only logical explanation is the waxing and washing has left behind some chemicals causing the reaction.

To prevent rusting, the only way is to keep bare metals protected with paint.

Thanks, KHLow2008! I thought maybe the wax had something to do with it but wasn't sure. Would you suggest my washing that area of the car with car cleaner several times to remove the wax, and then putting on touch-up paint and waiting several weeks to re-wax that area?

When retouching paint, no wax should be present. That would not allow the paint to bond and might peel off later.

Yes, clean the wax of the area to touch up and if possible blow dry it and you can do the touch up. A hair dryer would do nicely to dry and heat up the area for it to dry completely.

A little sanding of the surrounding area with 1000 grade sandpaper would help.
