Wipers arent working right

Hello,

It sounds like the wiper motor and wiper linkage is worn out but to be sure let's use this test light to check for power at the motor and check the linkage here is the wiring diagrams and instructions on how to change the wiper motor and linkage out below.

my windshield wiper is going crazy. when i turn on slow mode, it goes all the way up like it suppose to. when i turn it fast mode, it goes all the way and it the rubber edge of the windshield. the wiper doesn't stop where it suppose to stop and come back down. can you please tell me what is really wrong with my windshield wiper. i don't want to buy something that will not fix my problem. thanks for your help.

Id check the bushings on the arms to see if one is bad, other than that it sounds like it may be the motor if the blade doesnt hit in other speeds. Is the arm secure (tight) on its mount?

my windsheild wiper just stopped moving. I can hear the motor going, but they don't move. what am I looking to repair. Can i do it myself or do in have to take it to a repair shop. What should it cost me if I have repairs done.

Hi Theresa,

Most probably the wiper linkages have detached themselves from the wiper motor.

Lift both wipers and try turning them, if they move, the wiper linkages are worn or detached

To get at them, you need to remove the wiper arms and windshield cowl.

The intermittent wiper frequency only works at the low end of the spectrum and when you put it at the high setting within the intermittent range, the wipers act as if they're on the medium setting. Medium and high settings seem to be working as expected. My question is two part ... 1) will this get worse as time goes by if we do nothing and the wipers may stop working altogether ... 2) which part of the electronics needs attention? ... the switch assembly on the steering column? is there an inexpensive way to inspect and repair it?

Hi everett,

The intermittent wiper speed is controlled by the timer and based on what you described, I believe the timer or intergrated control unit is at fault.

The fast speed of the timer is only slightly slower than the normal speed and if the wiper does stop momentarily before moving, there is nothing wrong, that is normal.

Hi weezer67, I have the wiring diagrams here and you can do some testing. 1. Check for power supply to wiper motor Green/Black wire. If washer is working, should not be any problem. 2. With ignition and wiper switch ON, ground Black wire. If wiper works, ground wire is bad. If wiper motor heats ups during this process, wiper linkages could be incorrectly installed resulting in restriction. 3. Ground Blue or Blue/Yellow, if wiper does not work, the motor is bad.
