I'm in the market for a used Accord and I test drove an 05 Accord with only 30k miles. During the test drive, the serpentine belt broke causing a horrible noise and tearing up the protective cover on the roof of the hood. The belt didn't come totally off, it frayed, but the salesman insisted we drive the 1/4 mile back to the lot. What sort of damage to the rest of the car would this have done? I don't know how serious this is, should I avoid this car all together?

Hi concernedbuyer,

When cars are parked for too long, rust will form on the pulleys and this will cause the belts to fray when driven.

Internally there should be no problem so if the external damages are not much, a simple repair will get it in running order.

Should not be any major damages.
