2003 Honda Accord Noise when braking after replacing hydrau

We recently had our hydraulic fluids replaced. Shortly afterwards, we noticed an occasional rumbling sound when braking that had never been present before. It only happens in the last few moments when coming to a complete stop, not when just slowing down. It mostly happens when it's cold outside, and usually only during the first few stops. It goes away after driving for a while.

The noise ranges from a low bubbling liquid sound to a sound reminiscent of marbles or gravel rolling around.

Has anybody had this problem? Is it related to the replacement of the hydraulic fluids? (Could they have used the wrong fluid, or could there be air in the brake lines?)

It is more than likely related to the fluid replacement if it was not making the noise before.

Honda uses a special power steering fluid for example.

Take it back to the shop that replaced the fluids and have them check for any damage THEY caused.

Thanks, mmprince4000. It was our local Honda dealership that replaced the hydraulic fluids. We always take it to the dealership for exactly that reason. I hope they haven't done something that caused any damage. (If they did, I'm not sure how likely they would be to tell us that.)

Do you have any ideas about what might cause that kind of noise, or what kind of damage it might do?

It's been a couple of months now since we had the fluids replaced. We thought the noise might go away, since it's intermittent, but it still happens, particularly in cold weather.

They may have not properly bled the brakes, or possibly put wrong type of fluid in PS, for example.

I would contact them and describe problem and see what they offer. Make sure you tell them it started after they performed service.

You should get all fluid levels re-checked.

Another approach is to take to trusted (ASE) garage and have them diagnose it. Then take diagnosis back to Honda. You will have to pay for diagnosis, but you do not want to be replacing any major components, like PS pump, or brake caliper at your expense.
