I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX. I had the rear brake pads and rotors replaced 3 months ago. Yesterday, I had the rear calipers replaced (there was a brake fluid leak). The rear driver's side is now making a grinding noise as if the pad and rotor are touching whenever I am driving and have my foot on the gas. Once I brake, the noise stops. This is not happening on the passenger side of the car. I took it back to the mechanic this morning and got the usual "the pads need to wear into the new calipers." I've heard this statement before and want to know if there is any truth behind. I would assume what really happens is that the brake pad was not placed correctly and is indeed rubbing against the rotor until I wear off the pad enough that they do not touch - but I didn't pay $300 to have my brake pads wear down unnecessarily. And if it is normal, why is it only happening on one side? I seem to get no where with the mechanic when I question his answer, all I get is that "it is normal, the car is fine, just drive it." Please let me know if this is just some line from a mechanic who does not want to spend the time fixing their error, or if it is true.
