Engine Mechanical problem

sometimes when i go to start my 99 accord six cylinder vtec, it will turn over and sputter out and die.this will happen for a few minutes of trying to start it, then when it does start it will run just fine with no problems. the car has over 100,000 miles on it, and it does that some days more than others. the car has been doin it for nine months now.
