1999 Honda Accord 6 cyl Automatic 192000 miles

I recently notice that my car makes a loud noise when im driving but when i went to the mechanic to repair it they said nothing is wrong with my car because they didnt drive it around. If the car is not moving, pressing the accelerator sounds normal but when driving it hums pretty loud like high speed fan. I notice the noise becomes louder when i changed a tire, so they say it is likely to be the tires that make the noise.
Also, the engine vibrates whenever i turn on the ignition and when driving. Mechanic says is normal because of the mileage, i dont know how much truth is that. Is there a way to stop the vibration because it shakes everything in the car.

Hi Teewhy80,

Vabrations with engine running are usually due to bad engine mounts. Get them checked.

The noise you describe could be due to a bad wheel bearing if it changes/increases in level with road speed.

When i bought the car about 2yrs ago i changed the front engine mount. Although, the guy who fixed it wanted me to changed the rear one but i refused since he only said the front engine mount was bad.

After i was told here that my car wheel bearing was at fault its true and I went to change the wheel bearing but since then the ABS light has been on and when i went back to the mechanics they claimed that wheel bearing has nothing to do with ABS light. I want to know if thats true and when i forced them to check why the light is on they scan it and said it gives a "code 16" and quickly gave me a quote of $800 to change the ABS. What is code 16?

Also after they changed the wheel bearing, i found out that the sway bar link broke and the tie rod of the same side dislocated. Again, they said changing wheel bearing has nothing to do with those two. And immediately they charged me $260 if i will let them repair it. Are those mechanics telling the truth? Can someone please explain it to me?

ABS Code 16 = Wheel sensor electrical noise or intermittent, Rear Right.
This should not cost $800 if it is a sensor or wiring fault. It could possibly be due to dirt accumulation and cleaning would do.

Which wheel bearing was replaced?

The sway bar link and tie rod for the side the wheel bearing was replaced has everything to do with, if a bad job was done.

Wheel bearing changed is on the driver side (left front).

the mechanics claimed they didnt touch the sway bar link and tie rod (external), they said it broke because it rusts and the tie rod is loose too, therefore making a little noise.

they want me to change the whole ABS wiring.

I don't think they are qualified to do repairs on the ABS system if they are telling you to replace the complete wiring.

When replacing the wheel bearings, the tie-rod end has to be disconnected. If it breaks due to rust, then you cannot fault the shop however if it becomes disconnected due to improper torquing, then they have to be resonsible for it.

If the tie-rod end has wear in the ball joint, then it is due to wear and age so it cannot be faulted to the shop as well.
