How hard is it to remove and install the cylinder head off a 99 accord? I have read the hayne's manual but i am kind of confused. is it necessary to remove the rocker arms and valves when i remove the head to get it machined to remove the spark plug that is stuck.

Hi nosho47,

It is a job that I hate to do, involves a lot of work and having a poor back does not help.

Before we go to that, you mentioned a stuck spark plug, maybe we can try to sort that out and save you a lot of work. Can you explain to me what is the problem?

The previous owner that I bought the car from I think stripped the hex on the spark plug so he put JB Weld on his socket and let it set on the spark plug. I guess that did not work so he instead left it there just to keep the spark plug wire in place. So now I am stuck trying to get it removed. At first I thought it would be rubber but it is too hard to chip it away.

Hi nosho47,

I believe it is possible to remove any foreign materials by chipping it away with a sharp chisel but to remove the spark plug might be another matter.

Would you like to give it a try? Get a sharp chisel and you would need a small hosed vacumn cleaner to remove the debris.

Being a VTEC the plug cylinders are rather deep so makes things more difficult. If it had been without the cylinder, it would be easier if you remove the rocker carriers.
