1999 Honda Accord Door doesn't lock...

I recently purchased this vehicle used. It has damage (good size dent) on front passenger door. The door opens and closes well. I am unable to lock the door. The lock doesn't push down at all. I removed the door panel and don't see the lock caught up on anything. It simply does not go down and lock the door. I was thinking in replacing the locking mechanism itself. Could that be the issue? What is the name of this part? Simple to remove and replace?

If am not mistaken its called door lock actuator/solenoid Does this look similar to it ?

To better assist you is your car a DX Sedan, EX or LX. Next please give me the specific engine size in liter.

This does have automatic locks on it…..yes? And the lock does not work or make a sound when you use the key fob or the main door lock/unlock switch?

Also as you said, you can not even push the lock up or down.

Based off of what you say, it may be the door lock actuator. Since you have the panel off, remove the connector and put 12volts directly on the pins on the actuator side. One pin positive and the other negative. You can reverse them to make it go the other way. See if it moves up or down. If it doesn’t’ move that is your problem a bad actuator mechanism.

Auto Zone – O’Reilly’s carry these parts.

As for simple to remove and replace – just take your time – things are sharp in there. Things only go in and out of there in certain directions. You may find yourself wondering how they got that in there, but it can be done.
