My Honda Accord check engine & maint. required light came on. The manual said to make sure the gas cap was on good. It was. Auto Zone said it was the ERG or EGR valve and turned it off to see if it would stay off. It seemed to sound rough, but the light stayed off. Later it made a very loud noise like metal hitting the ground. The car died & the light came back on. When I put it in gear, it would not go. I gassed it harder and a lot of smoke came out the tailpipe. It was very hard to push and the only way we could push it was to start it and keep the clutch pushed in. Every few feet it made an awful metal sounding noise. Could it be the transmission or clutch. If so... why all the smoke?

Under extreme conditions if the EGR valve is stuck close your engine could detonate under load. This might be the noise you are hearing. The smoke you see might just be your vehicle burning excess emissions.

I would recommend not driving the vehicle and towing it to a shop immediately.

I can't drive it... it won't move. It is like the transmission is out... except the only way to move it is by pushing in on the clutch while it is started and then it is very hard to push. Can the ERG valve and transmission problems be related?

Can you please elaborate on your clutch issue?

Are you saying the clutch pedal is very hard?

Sorry, I haven't been on line in a few days. It was my transmission. I bought the car last Thursday and it broke down on Friday. I got it back Monday... and now it is leaking power steering fluid!!! Thanks for your response.
