After starting the car we push the button in on the stick shift but it will not move out of park. Can not move it into any other gears.

Hi paulab,
Check for a faulty brake switch or blown brake fuse.
Use the ignition key to insert into the small slot near the shift and press, then shift to N and you can start the vehicle and shift gears. However do not shift into P while stopping at lights until you get the problem solved.
