Engine Cooling problem
1998 Honda Accord Automatic 135000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
neither my condensor fan or cooling fan kick in causing the engine to overheat.a friend has bridged the plug on the fan switch causing the fans to run permanently when the ignition is on.the top hose from the radiator still gets very hot but the bottom hose stays cool.(is this normal?)all relays and fuses are working.various people have told me to change the fan switch change the thermostat or even the radiator!!any ideas before i fork out loads of money unnecassarily?

Hi bigfish084,

Brigding the fan switch means the fans and relays are working. Is there any overheating after this?

Are there any coolant losses? With fan working permanently, does the temp increase with high speed driving?

If no to the above, replace the fan switch, make sure rating is correct.

Upper radiator should always be warmer than the lower hose.

hi khlow 2008
the car still overheated even with fan switch bridged and both fans going constantly. top pipe is red hot and the bottom pipe is not just cool but cold even.there are no coolant leaks present and there is plenty of coolant in the radiator.

Hi bigfish084,

Docfixit is correct but before doing that, test it first. If it is ok, change the water pump.
