1995 Honda Accord EGR Troubleshooting

Recent check engine light came on and I scanned it and reads "low EGR flow" code. Is there a good way to test between the EGR valve and the EGR solenoid to determine which component is the likely problem?

With the engine running. Use a hand held vacum pump (MIghty Vac) to apply vacum to the EGR valve, (about 10 inches of vacum should be sufficient) with the engine running. The engine should run rough or die with vacum applied. This checks the valve diaphragm. and the EGR ports. If the valve doesn't hold vacum the the EGR valve needs to be replaced.

To check the solenoid, you can plug a vaum guage into the hose comiing from the solenoid to the EGR valve rev up the motor (a road test while having someone monitor the vacum guage may be neccessary} to see if the solenoid is opening. about 4 to 8 inches of vacum should be seen.

No problem. I'll check back to see if it helped. I have had to replace a few of the solenoids in past repairs. If I hooked them to directly tobattery positive & ground while applying vacum to one of the vacum they seemed to ok, but were bad.
