I have a 95 honda accord. The body is in great shape and I have done quite well to maintain the car. Over the past 3 yrs I have have:
-installed a new radiator
-new front R&L cv axels
-new front R&L ball joints
-new brakes, pads, shoes, roators in front and back
-changed the timing belt and water pump.
Obviously, I have maintained many of the cars vital aspects. About 3 weeks ago i took my car in because my brake light was on. I was told that my fuel lines were ok but i needed new pads in the front. So, i got those replaced and the brake light went off.
Then earlier this week i noticed the light was back on. I took it in and now my brake lines were actually leaking, and at an alarming rate. At this point, my pedal has no pressure and goes right down to the floor, with little to now braking power.
I was told that the lines are rusted from front to back and need to be replaced. The sad part is that i was told that it would cost more than the value of the car. As i beleive the car is still in wonderful shape in addition to the fact that older hondas have a great track record, I would like to have this fixed.
The mechanic said that it would likely cost more than the value of the car. However, after talking to some other people, I was made aware that something of this magnitude may be repaired for under $600 or so.
What type of work would need to be done? How much labor should something like this requie? And how much should something like this cost?
