Transmission problem
1992 Honda Accord Manual

Hi, the gear shift lever is free moving. I traced the two gear shift cables, through the firewall, to the transmission. I can move the driver's right side cable manually by manipulating the linkage bracket, on the side of the transmission. When I do this, in one direction, the gearshift lever will move backward. When I move the linkage shifter in the other direction nothing moves. I see the path of the two cables clearly. I also saw a holding bracket, for the two gearshift cables, mounted about 1/2 along the pathway. My question is: How do I replace the cable that appears to be broken? Does it unscrew at the shift lever and at the boot assembly at the transmission holding bracket? Do I need to replace both cables? Thank you, Randy

im actualy having the same issue with my 97 lx 5 speed.. does your shifter move anything at all in the bracket area? mine does but seems like theres not enough pressure(i guess youd say) to get it to go in any gear but if i do it manually on thw side of the trans, given enough gas it will drive in that gear also clutch works enjugh to put it into neutral and can feel at lower rpm the clutch is engaging so.. learning process for us both. ill keep you posted with any developments..
