1989 Honda Accord clicking/grinding

When in reverse, as you begin to back up there is a distinct clicking or clunking sound that gets worse the faster you back up. I would assume the problem is in the transmission but only part of it because all the other gears run extremely well. Curious what you think the problem might be, and what the cost will be to repair it. also, if there is a huge danger if I choose not to repair it?

HI there,

You will need a transmission specialist to listen to this noise, just to confirm that it is transmission related, dose it make the noise if you slip it into neutral? start here.

No noise if you slip it into neutral. Going forward the car is fantastic. It functions fine per say going backward, but I avoid doing it as often as I can because the noise doesn't sound friendly at all.

I'm not car savvy but if I'm not mistaken the 5th/reverse are on the same line or whatever. It drives like a champ in 5th gear on the highway, I dunno if that would make it difference?

I'm assuming since the rest of the gears work well, there's no way it's the entire transmission, just that one gear..?
