If depressing the accelerator to increase the engine speed keeps the engine running, then you need to check the idle speed adjustment.

Is this an injected or carburetted model?

It is the carburetted model.

Depressing the accelerator to increase the engine speed does NOT keep the engine running.

The only way to keep it running is manually choke it.

There are a few possible scenarios.

1. Fuel float level too low. At the sight glass check if the fuel level is 1/2 way or slightly higher.

2. Vacumn leakages. If any vacumn leaks occurs, insufficient fuel would be drawn into the manifold and cylinders. Check all vacumn lines and PCV for leakages.

3. Fuel cut solenoid not working or stuck in closed position. The fuel cut solenoid at rear of carburettor should click when the ignition switch is turned on.
