High rpm's before downshifting

88,500 MILES • 2.4L • 4 CYL • 4WD • AUTOMATIC

The vehicle goes to about 3000 to 3500 rpm's before downshifting when going uphills. Sometimes unless I put it in cruise it does not downshift. It does not have a lot of guts when you push on the gas.

Check the transmission fluid level, it could be below the desired level.
Is the check engine or any other malfunction indicator showing? Get a diagnostic scan to check for trouble codes and let us know if there are any, (complete code required, not the description).
