High idle at cold start and erratic periodically when warmed up

I have checked it MAF (mass air flow) sensor which is intact and completely clean and checked the throttle body which is also clean. I suspect the culprit could be a dirty IAC(Idle air control) or a dirty EGR valve. I do not know how to remove either of these and have tried but I ended up stripping one of the Phillips screws holding one of them on. (worst feeling in the world). I am afraid at how difficult it would be to remove and clean them, especially the EGR valve which is located under the throttle body and is hard to get hands and tools down there. How much should I expect to pay a mechanic to check both of these for me and clean them? And could there potentially be and other reasons for high idle at cold start? it's currently 70 to 80 degrees outside here and at a cold start it idles exactly at 1500 rpm's.
