Good afternoon,

It sounds like the pick up in the fuel tank may be the issue. The hose connecting the pump to the pick up may have a hole in it not picking up fuel when the level gets to that point.

It is, canister type pump.
As long as your driving on highway it's fine until you slow down and stop.

I know the design.

Based on your input from the original post, it indicates it is not picking up fuel.

Can you check the actual pressure?

You need to test it when the engine acts up and be sure it is the same pressure.

You need a kit that will T into the fuel rail so you can drive it while watching the pressure.

You can rent these testers at a parts store.

You need a tester with a long hose so you can view it on the windshield. That's what we do when we road test.

Tank not under pressure? Please explain.

Your tanks are never under pressure. The fuel pump creates pressure in the fuel line.

That is normal. The pressure should in the line to the injectors.

Did you verify power to the pump when you had it apart? The power comes down th line from the inertia switch to the switching valve to the pump.

Did you verify the issue with a gauge when it happened?

When you replaced the pump, did you look inside the tank at the baffles? A broken baffle in the tank will allow fuel slosh and that would cause it to lose pressure.
