Suddenly, my headlights stopped working. Running (amber) lights were fine, I could hold the brights on, but when I released the handle (on the column), the lights went back off. Also, the handle does click, as it would when switching from high to low beams.
The number five fuse is not blown (which in my vehicle is a thirty, not sure that is appropriate). Thanks to my neighbor who reminded me to unplug the battery.
There is a melted black spot on the base of the headlight port (marked "H").
Got a new switch, but it is missing what appears to be a port (marked U on the old switch) for the ground line (at the end of the switch body). My guess is it is a ground line because it is attached to the metal part of the switch body.
There are also two new ports (in an "L" configuration) on the underside of the new switch (by the push button that releases the light switch pull handle).
Is the first one a "ground" and does it matter? Or do I need to solder it to the metal part of the switch? NAPA shop clerk says this is the right switch.
Do the new ports matter?
Pictures are attached (two with the original switch and two with the new), any help would be appreciated.
