I got my truck to a mechanic because it was leaking coolant from the reservoir lid and it was misfiring. I thought it was the head gasket their diagnose was water pump failure and 2 out 4 injector on the passenger side they suggested to replace all four and the thermostat and the water pump. 46 km later our truck overheated so much we were stuck on the side of the road. we call and got back to a different mechanic they thought it was a air pocket they tried to fix it nothing. better now I’m waiting for the other shop to open and I’m pretty sure it the head gasket since we already have an EGR bypass. did the mechanic made a mistake? did the rack of changing the injector blew our head gasket? what is going on now? we have a motor leak and a massive prestige leak and an overheating truck probably due to pressure free. help please.

Hello,

There is no way to tell without being able to look at the vehicle. There is a very good possibility that it was misdiagnosed and had a blown head gasket from the start or that either the water pump and/or thermostat gasket is leaking due to improper installation. The first thing to due is to diagnose where the coolant is leaking from and to do that I would recommend doing a pressure test on your vehicle's cooling system. Here is a link describing how to do it:

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out or how things progress.

Thanks,
Alex

Good evening,

How did they determine the head gasket was not an issue at the prior repair? Did they even check for it?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test

The 6.0 was common for this. When the gaskets are replaced, the bolts are changed to studs so it does not happen again.

How bad did it overheat?

I request them to check they said it wasn’t the case, but I don’t trust anyone anymore. the coolant leak was from the lid why they wouldn’t check all sign was the head gasket. why they only determined injector and water pump and thermostat I don’t know. they already charged me a lot of money and 43 km later it worst than ever.

We are travelling with a fifth wheel and we didn’t want to blow it. so as soon as it overheated we stop driving it.

Good. Get it to a shop and have it checked out correctly.

Keep me updated.

Now they said head gasket need stud and want $4,000.00 more. they are not admitting a wrong diagnose. I paid $3,300.00 for the last repair and nothing was fixed.

The price is right for the head gaskets. As I stated, they replace the bolts with studs.

As far as liability, since they misdiagnosed the repair, tell them you will pay the difference of $700.00 for the head gasket repair.

They want $4,000.00 more they don’t want to admit that it was a misdiagnosed.
