Hi,

Have you checked to see if there are diagnostic trouble codes? Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

https://youtu.be/YV3TRZwer8k

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it free of charge or lend/rent a scanner to you. If the check engine light is staying on with the engine running, have this done.

Next, are there any other symptoms? For example any sounds or something noticeable other than the power loss? If not, then I would suggest checking a couple things.

The first thing I check when there is a power loss is for a plugged catalytic converter or restriction in the exhaust. Take a look through these links:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/bad-catalytic-converter-symptoms

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-a-catalytic-converter

If there are no restrictions, check to see if there are an engine vacuum leaks.

One other thing, when you say it loses power, is there any misfiring from the engine, backfiring, black or white smoke from the exhaust, or anything you can think of that may help me diagnose the issue?

Let me know.

I do have a scanner but it hasn't ran long enough to throw a code. since I replace the starter I have the battery out I seen a video to check the catalytic converter by pulling the O2 sensor and see if it runs better that way. how do you feel about that? when idling it runs fine I can rev it up just fine when in park it feels like it should have power there is no misfire or smoke coming out of it.

You are very welcome. Let me know if I can help and what you find. Once we do some checking, it should point us in the right direction.

Take care and have a good weekend.

If you look at pic 1, it shows possible causes for a P0383.

I read through several repair / pinpoint checks for you and the first thing that is suggested is to check the cam timing. That means checking the timing.

Before we jump the gun, is the engine oil clean and full? Has it been serviced on a regular basis or does is it possible that it could be sludged up inside? This could be a low oil pressure related issue, that's why I ask.

Let me know. Also, as far as testing the catalytic converters, yes to removal of the O2 sensor. It has to be one before the converter. I tell people that all the time. Here is a link that shows in general how to test one, but I believe it recommends removal. Keep in mind, the O2 sensor will only allow a small amount of air to exit, so it won't be perfect. However, if the converter is the issue, you should notice a difference.
