Has to turn over 5 to 10 seconds before it will start

Outside. Temp approx 35 degrees. Starter has to run 5 to 10 seconds before car starts. It grinds and sounds/smells like there is to much gas. Similar to a non fuel injected engine. While engine is running inside of car has a dirty oil smell. Also after shutting down in garage the same odor is out side of car. Car seems to run fine once it starts.

Any internal combustion engine are going to take longer to start in cold ambient temperatures. Heavier weight engine oil is going to add more resistance to moving engine parts also increasing cranking time. Refer to your owners manual for engine oil viscosity.

To aid in cold starting more fuel is added, second it speeds up warming the engine to operating temperature. The quicker an engine can warmup (or maintain that temperature in cold climates) the more efficient the engine can perform. This also reduces emissions.

You might have an exhaust leak that is causing exhaust fumes or and engine oil leak running down onto the hot exhaust causing odor to enter the vehicle. Switching the air condition to recirculate and not vent can help reduce odor.
