I saw you made a post about your Hyundai making a grinding noise in P and N. Mine is doing the same spent $1,600.00 to change ignition barrel and starter motor and that didn’t help. Please tell me you found out what was causing the problem! I’m desperate before the Hyundai mechanic charge me more for nothing! Thank you so much in advance.

Can you get a recording of the noise? Also when does this do it? When you are shifting in or out of park or neutral?

I am thinking based on what you described that this is a possible shift solenoid or pressure valve issue. If the pressure is not correct with the unit then it can grind when shifting into gear.

I am not sure why they replaced the ignition and starter unless this issue only happens during starting the vehicle.

On other note, if you paid them to correct this issue, I would take it right back and tell them they did not correct it. You should not have to pay more when they charged to correct this and it didn't fix it. If this was the way it worked, why would they try to fix anything? They could just keep charging you to try different things. If it were me, I would take it back and show them it did not fix it and either ask for your money back or they fix it at no charge (or at least you pay the difference).
