Grinding feeling in brake pedal when slowing down. Just had front pads replaced and rears adjusted at Toyota dealership. Took it back and they said they felt nothing.

Hi,

Is there any sound associated with what you are feeling? Also, is it only when the brakes are applied?

Do me a favor. Look through the front wheels at the brake rotors. Is there any evidence of something cutting into the steel brake rotors?

Take a look at the picture below. It shows a brake rotor. I suspect they were replaced with the brakes. Just check to make sure there is nothing cutting into them.

Also, if the rotors appear good and undamaged, in a safe place, gently apply the parking brake while moving to see if the noise is evident. At least that way we can determine if it is from the front or the rear.

Let me know,

Joe

Rotors look fine. I also have jacked the truck up and checked the wheel bearings. I felt no vibration or heard any unusual noise like you would hear from bad bearing. I will try the parking brake and let you know. I had the rears adjusted a few months after having the pads changed on the front, so I kind of suspect something with the rears. Thanks!

Hi,

It certainly could be the rears. Is that when you noticed the change? When adjusted, there could have been a spring that broke, or something moved out of position.

Since the fronts look good, remove the rear wheels and drums for inspection. Additionally, if you look at the pics below, I included the directions specific to your truck for adjustment.

Let me know if this helps and if it takes care of the issue. Also, make sure to let me know if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe

Good morning, Joe,

I did try applying the park brake as I was slowly rolling but didn't feel or hear anything unusual. I will take the drums off and inspect because this didn't start till after they were adjusted. I greatly appreciate the help! I will let you know what I find.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

No problem whatsoever; I'm glad to help. Let me know what you find when you have the chance. I don't know where you're located or if you have a place to work inside. I know I wouldn't want to be outside here today working on a vehicle. Too cold. LOL Also, hang in there. We'll get it figured out one way or another.

Take care,

Joe
