1996 GMC Yukon Ticking

yeah lazy lifter. try mystery oil, that should buy you some time. **also check your intake gaskets, sometimes they leak coolant internally and can cause lifters to take a long time to pump up. are you losing coolant but dont see a leak?

I checked the coolant and all is fine, no sludge, and the overflow is full and the rad is full. Just an ungodly ticking.

are you positive its not an exhaust leak. these are notorious for leaking at the y pipe where it bolts to manifold. the bolts will be tight but the pipe is loose, and sounds exactly like a lifter. check that before you go insane

I finally looked a little deeper. Checked the exhaust/manifold/y pipe connections - all is tight.

Drained oil - looked ok - no metal, added 1 qt marvel mystery oil and new filter- No change

Removed serpentine belt to eliminate tensioner - no change.

The tick seems to come from both sides of the motor just under the valve covers?

I hooked up an external oil pressure guage - 55 - 60 lbs @ idle cold.

I just think the upper part of the engine is not getting oil.

Any ideas?

i have replaced alot of those sets of lifters and it always fixed the problem. let us know

Pulled the intake and valve covers and 3 colapsed lifters. Waiting for parts, should have them tuesday.

I have never seen roller tip rockers in a truck from the factory. Any Ideas?

roller lifters is what they use. just to be sure, you did check to see that the camshaft lobes are not worn out.**most likely they are not** but double check

Thanks, I checked the cam and all is fine. Got everything back together and sounds a lot better. I going to let it cool down and adjust the valves again.
