Brakes problem
1998 GMC Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have replaced the master cylinder 4 times in the last 8 months. What could be causing them to go bad?

What makes you think that they were defective?? You could have other troubles too. You need to completely drain and flush the brake system, and replace the fluid. You must have some foreign substance that has contaminated the system. You might also give some thought to rebuilding wheel cylinders and calipers, since they have rubber or teflon seals.
