Transmission problem
1997 GMC Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a GMC 1500 4X4 with a 350 5.7 litre vortec engine i need a different transmission my next store neighbor has an 89 chev 350 5.7 litre engine with a good transmission will it fit mine? and are the 4L60 and the 700r4 the same transmission?

They are not the same trans, although they may fit the rear of the block. A salvage yard would be able to tell you what will interchange, and what wont. Flex plates could be different, as well as driveshaft yokes, and any electronics may be different.
