1996 GMC Suburban Ignition fuse

1996 GMC Suburban Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200000 miles

This is a diesel engine. I keep blowing the ignition fuse. What could be the cause? Will I need to replace the ignition system? Or could it be a simpler fix?

Hello, I looked at info for the 6.5 diesel. The only ignition fuse I found was ign E-- 10 amp fuse. Supplies voltage to the ac relay--fuel pump balance module--fuel pump balance relay. I'd unplug the circuits one at a time, try to see which one is causing the problem.

The fuse I am blowing is a 40 amp fuse. It blows out as soon as you turn the key. We even tried a 60 amp fuse once, that did no better. This fuse is in the fuse box under the hood, not inside the cab. Maybe not necessarily an ignition fuse???

I did find a maxi fuse 40 amp, under hood fuse box. Supplies voltage to ignition switch as well as the starter relay. Does it blow at the on or crank position? I hate to see you blow all your fuses, but, you need to protect the circuit. You can pull the starter relay, see if the fuse still blows? Not conclusive, but a start.
