I brought my 94 454 suburban into a mechanic he tested it said it was a blown head gasket. They machined the heads and put it all back together. I took it home still sucking down coolant and now a new problem "blow-by". Took it back they tested it and now they say the block is cracked. They said that was most likely the reason why the gasket blew the first time. My question should they have checked they block while the heads were off and if not am i entitled to a refund?

yes the block should have been checked. I think the guy wasn't telling you the truth and used the block cracking as an excuse. I selldom have seen big blocks crack and i've seen my share of them. Although it could have. He may have just done a bad job or not done it at all and said he did. If you have laws in your state about mechanics then try that as I'd bet the guy won't refund your money.
