Replacing brake lines

Had what I think is a brake line go on me (pressed the brakes and pedal went to floor and checked under car and saw brake fluid). Brought the truck to a garage, mechanic stated that all the lines were rusted and I am looking at a price of at least $600 could be more to replace all the lines (except for one rear line that I had replaced last year). Does this sound reasonable. I asked him if he could just fix the broken line but he said it would take some time to isolate where the leak is due to its location (so the labor could get costly). Mechanical was recommend not sure if I am getting taken for a ride.

I cant comment on whether you need it or not, but 600 sounds reasonable to replace all the lines. Thats a lot of line. Labor can add up having to reconnect everything, and bleed the new system.

I would assume that your mechanic and or you are confident that it is not a master cylinder or caliper issue. If your lines are really in that bad of shape that one busted and the rest look as bad but are not leaking, I would say that if you just repair the one line, you may have another bust on you in 5000 miles. I would recommend replacing all of your line. If you are ambitious, you could do it yourself for half or less just in parts.
