engine knocks when first started for about one or two minutes and then quiets down, sounds more like a ticking than a knock

Your engine has hydraulic roller lifters in it. It sounds like one, or maybe a few are, wearing and taking a little time to "pump" up. It will do this especially during cold temperatures...Make sure your oil level is correct..
