1999 GMC Sierra It sounds like an exhaust leak at manifold.

Like air escaping/ ticking sound made from left side of engine only when under a load . no load no noise despite raising rpm's. mechanic said , they all do that , i think it is a leak from a rusty exhaust manifold gasket.It doesnt have the ticking sound of valves but thats why I'm asking.

Hi
Get a 3 ft. 1/4 inch hose while running hold one end to ear other move around exhaust. when you hit leak you will know. Also look for black streaking at all exhaust connections.
