Shuts off while driving

V8 four wheel drive automatic 89,090 miles.

My truck is a extended cab with a 350 engine. Just recently it has started shutting off while driving for no apparent reason. I replaced the module for the distributor thinking it may be electrical in nature. No success. I then felt it may be the fuel pump, so I had it replaced with the inline filter as well. Same persistent trouble. When just after initially leaving my house the truck shut off again. When the truck shuts off all gauges go to the left but there are no codes retained in the computer. I am lost! Any help would be greatly appreciated before I purchase a $300.00 ignition. I tried a different map sensor and the truck seemed to work better. It did not shut off when cold. When it had warmed up though it shut off and this morning it seemed like it was going to shut down but only for a moment and then sprung to life and continued on. Help with any suggestions please!

Several weeks ago I started experiencing a problem, when I would try to start my truck, it wouldnt do anything. The lights on the dash would come on, but the starter wouldnt engage or make any noise. After multiple attempts, it would finally start right up. Checked the battery cables, ground locations, and other wiring (note: has new battery, alternator, starter plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor button, fuel filter, and pcv valve all less than a year old).
I asked around as this was happening every other day. I came to the conclusion that the ignition switch may have gone bad. Have yet to replace it because now it tries to start and either wont or will not stay running for more than 3 seconds. Occasionally, it will start and run, until I touch the gas pedal and it immediately dies with no sputtering. Sometimes it will start and I can get out and walk away, a minute later it will die. Whats goin on?

Ignition switch could cause your starting problem. To change it could be a cheap fix. On the stalling, I would check the fuel pressure. A bad fuel pressure regulator could cause the problem you described. You didn't mention a check engine light, so I'm assuming you don't have one. If you do, let us know and what the codes are.

1995 gmc 4.3 motor, starts up fine when cold after you drive it when it gets to a certain spot when its hot it stalls out,let it set for a few mins and it will restart,I added ground cable from battery to block and block to firewall could there be another ground missing somewhere causing this shutdown?

How long since a tune-up? Any applicable codes? When the problem occurs, if it cranks good, but won't start, have a helper crank while you visually check for spark at the plugs. You can carry a known good spark plug or spark tester in the glove-box, it won't get hot, don't pull a plug from the engine. Pull a spark plug wire loose from spark plug. If the spark plug wire is hot, use a glove. Place spark tester in boot, ground metal part of tester to metal part of engine, engine cranking, watch for spark.

i do not agree. you have electrical leakage from somewhere. get a spray bottle with water and spray down the cap and coil while running and look for arcing

Check the fuel pressure to rule out a leaking pressure regulator and clogged return line/sticking injector/s.
