I have a clicking sound coming from under the dash near all the electrical wires - at first it was intermittent, it seems to be more ongoing now and when I apply the brakes it seems to stop. Any ideas on this one?

Nothing is coming to mind on this, but is it possible that there is something hanging under the dash that is being moved by the brake pedal assy to put the offending componenet in another postion temporarily?

Maybe a relay hanging down that is rattleing against the dash for example?

Will it do the clicking at idle or do you have to be moving? If so any particular speeds or other commonalities?

I went under the dash today and pulled every fuse to see if it would stop...it seems the noise is literally coming from the fuse box, like you can almost feel it. It is also making this noise idling as well as in park. The only time it seems to stop is when braking. I do have an appt. to bring it in to the garage on Monday. They mentioned that it had something to do with the speedometer cable. Any thoughts on that? Let me know.

Thanks,

JK

this sounds stupid but when it does it turn on the hazard switch, if it slows down to the pace of the lights, its in the hazard switch. if not can you pull the relay and cause it to stop. I dont think those have speedo cables in them

Hi,

You guys sure do know what you're talking about! This problem did happen to be the hazard switch that is a part of the steering column - not a huge job but a bit of a pain. I heard everything from it's the speedometer cable (which apparently the 2000 Safari doesn't come with) to it's an old security system that was still connected???

Thanks for providing your expert advice!
