starts up great ,but at above a scarey red line rev, or full blast! This is th 2.5 pontiac with a 300 rochester fuel inj. throttle body. Is this possibly a computer reset if so how?

I would look for a vacuum leak. Disconnected hose or a cracked one.

Try flexing hoses and see if there are separations, cracks at connections etc.
A smoke machine could flush out a vacuum leak fairly easily.
