blown head gasket

I picked up my car today after having the heater hose fitting replaced. After driving the car less then 20 miles the head casket blew. Since part of the service included presure testing the cooling system I fell it resulted in causing the problem. Could the part have been put in wrong? Could too much presure have been used? What is an average cost for a repair like this? Can you provide me with any information I can use to go back to the repair shop and agure intelligently that they are responsble to make the repair free of charge.

Please advise.

just my two cents worth. but yes, doing a pressuer test on a cooling system can cause a head gasket to fail. BUT useualy if it was CLOSE to failing anyways. and thats the argument they're going to use to explain it. sorry. good luck

Well, you didn't say what kind of vehicle or how many miles on it ! Some cars are known for head gasket problems.....a simple presure test of the sytem to find a leaking hose should not damage a head gasket ......unless you can PROVE they over pressured the system ( went beyond the rating of the vehicle...usually 11-20 psi), I don't think you have any chance of proving THEY damaged your car.....it could be the gasket was marginal, and now with your hose repaired and full system pressure restored, it caused the gasket to finally fail.
