Electrical problem

Hello
I just bought this 99 GMC Suburban about 2 weeks ago and took it on my first trip up north.
The cruise control worked great going up there, but coming back it stopped working. Also when we went to leave to come back I could not get the truck to shift from park while depressing the brake pedal. I finally found that I could turn the key one click towards on and get it to shift into neutral. Otherwise, I could not get it to shift from park while the truck was running.
I have been through all of the fuses and they are OK. We did have a new brake switch installed about five days before the trip, but I do not think that is it....or is it?
