I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE with 90,000 miles on it. Over this winter, the "Low Coolant" light came on occassionally. Although I could never see any stains on the engine block, garage floor, nor did I ever smell any antifreeze eminating from the heater, I would top off the overflow bottle back to the line, and all was fine for a while...until the light came back on. This happend 3-4 times over the winter. No problems since the last time I topped off the overflow bottle until today when I was at the gas station and noticed a puddle of antifreeze running out from under my car. The "Low Coolant" light had never come on, nor did the heater malfunction until after this moment, when the heater air now smells of antifreeze, and the heat went cold. After popping the hood open, I noticed it was pouring out of the overflow tube that is attached to the overflow bottle. I was able to get the car home w/o red-lining the car. I am wondering if all of this could be caused by a malfunctioning radiator cap alone?? Or is it possible I have a couple different problems? I have seen no leaks at this point. Many THANKS in advance for your valuable assistance!

did you have any antifreeze leaking on the carpet under the dash? if so the heater core may be bad-also check the heater hoses coming from the back of the firewall to the engine for leaks.

Thanks for that response! There has been no anitfreeze making it into the passenger compartment whatsoever. Knocking on wood there! WIll definitely check the hose though, as well...
